Located in an alleyway, the duplex space relies totally on the light from the backyard. The layout is based on the introduction of light as a starting point, firstly considering the intersection of the vertical traffic flow of the staircase and the horizontal space, so as to think about the relationship between each area, define the location of the staircase, and then return to the living space of each area.

By setting the staircase at the center of the indoor area, independent living areas are divided by glass partitions to magnify the visual effect of the space. The transparent pattern not only preserves privacy, but also ensures interconnection between each area, making the space brighter. The light is also introduced into the ground floor through the openings, breaking the closure of the public and private areas and maximizing the use of light from the backyard.

The lower ceiling height of the ground floor is also taken into consideration, and the compartment adopts a non-ceiling approach to minimize the sense of narrowness, while using the light-admitting quality of glass to extend the sightline and select pure materials, combined with splashed-ink polyurethane as the visual focus, presents a natural and stable spatial tone.
